Skill 1: Refinish Furniture

Once you realize you can refinish furniture, the possibilities are endless.

There is so much great second hand furniture out there for cheap that just needs a second chance.

There are three main ways you can transform furniture that we will talk about:

Painting & Staining
Hardware
Decorative Accents

Painting & Staining

The most obvious way to transform an old piece of furniture is to paint it or stain it.

There are so many ways to do this, so I recommend researching your specific piece and seeing what might be best.

I love using chalk paint, as it has a soft, forgiving finish and doesn’t require primer.

Decorating My Home Office

Hardware

After painting, changing the hardware can make all the difference.

Replacing the hardware on this desk, for instance, made it look much more modern. The paint plus the change in hardware make this desk look completely different.

Decorative Accents

There are tons of other things you can do to an old piece of furntiture.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is a fun way to add pattern and color to plain furniture pieces.
