Quarantine Habits to Keep

This post is different from what I normally share, but I had a lot of thoughts that I just wanted to share (some are even home related).

I’ve been back to work for almost a month now and have spent a lot of time readjusting. Let’s be honest, quarantine was a weird time. But, being the eternal optimist that I am, I wanted to come out of this looking at the bright side.

Life at home all day was certainly different, in both good ways and bad ways. There are some habits I picked up during this time that I really liked and hope to do some more.

More Walks

Who didn’t take more walks during this time? It was about the only way to get out of your house every day. The dogs loved it and so did it. It was refreshing to just get out and get some fresh air.

I now wake up earlier each morning and take my dogs for a walk. I think it is a great way to start the day, and I love the quiet time to think.

More Communication with Friends

It is funny how it took us not being able to leave our house to reach out to long distance friends and family. People who we could have called before but never made the effort to. Or maybe we just called them more. Both were the case for me. I have a habit of being so introspective that I don’t always reach out to friends. I’m making an effort to reach out to friends more

More Picking up after Myself

Being home all day made it much easier to pick up after myself and keep a clean house. I created a habit of unloading/loading the dishwasher each morning while my coffee brewed.

I realized that this is something I could do even once I got back to work.

I’ve spent the past couple of weeks trying to be more intentional about cleaning up after myself. It is easy to feel rushed and leave things out, then get frustrated when you come home to a dirty house after work.

More Hobbies

With so much more free time I found myself spending time on things I normally wouldn’t do.

I did some home projects, worked on my blog, all kinds of stuff.

And while I will have less time once things get back to normal, the truth is I can still make time to do more of these things.

Before, I would spend a lot of free time just watching tv. And while I enjoy tv, too much of it gets boring and unfulfilling.

There is nothing like the satisfaction I get when I finish a big project, like my bathroom renovation or painting the stencil in my office. While these tasks are equally frustrating, there is something so much more fulfilling about them than watching tv.

I also listen to different things while I work, such as audiobooks or podcasts which makes this time doubly satisfying.

I hope to find more productive things to do and work on, even as things return to normal.

Getting Back to Normal

I enjoyed my time at home immensely. I got the time I needed to unpack and decorate our new home. But things have returned to normal, and I have had to find ways to adjust back to my regular schedule.
