This post is going to be a little different than my typical content, but it is something that has been weighing on me heavily and I want to address.
It also is related to why I have not been posting as much.
Overconsumption is killing us.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved shopping. I love the experience of walking through stores and feeling the fabrics. I love the thrill of finding a good deal.
Then Pinterest and Instagram came, and I was served shopping on a silver platter. Messages and images catered to me. Influencers showing me all the amazing things they have and if I had those things too maybe my life would be perfect.
I tried (and failed, many times) to become an influencer myself. Thinking that I would be helping people by curating perfect shopping lists and showing them all of the glorious deals I had found for them.
Then something changed.
And I wish I had an exact moment to pinpoint to. Like an article or a video. But I don’t. The change in me happened slowly. I started cutting myself off from Instagram little by little, feeling constantly oversaturated with the sales of unnecessary things.
I think I started to see more people talk about sustainability and that inspired me to.
I found it hard to keep this blog up, since so much of what I had been doing was pushing my readers to buy more and more stuff.
And most of the time, we don’t need more stuff. Stuff won’t always make us happy.
I do want to be clear–some purchases are necessary. I’m not saying that I will never want to buy new things ever again. I do expect to. I’m just committing to trying my best to cut down as much as possible, and to buying items second hand if I can.
Moving forward.
I want to keep this blog and the related accounts (mainly TikTok, some Instagram).
However, I want to shift to even more DIYs and secondhand content. While I know this won’t be as profitable (if profitable at all), I think it is the right move for me personally.
This shouldn’t be a big shift in my content. I still have tons of ideas, more sewing tips as well as hosting and home diys.
With this written out, I feel reinvigorated to commit to a new journey and hope you’ll all join me.
If you have ideas for content that you’d like to see let me know, otherwise stay tuned!
