How to Find Affordable Curtains for Your Style

When we first got our house the large windows in the bedroom were daunting to me. I needed affordable curtains to be able to cover those windows within my budget.

I had never gotten a curtain rod that big, and feared that the rod plus the curtains would be insanely expensive.

I did some research and found that I could get the look I was wanting within my budget which was exciting. This process took four simple steps.

  • Finding Inspiration
  • Understanding the Parts of a Curtain
  • How to Shop for What You Want
  • Putting it Together

Inspiration

Shopping without knowing what you are looking for can lead to endless scrolling and frustration.

Finding inspiration and imagining what you want can help you to be able to accurately search, sort, and filter through all of the choices out there.

Understanding the Parts of a Curtain

Once you have an image in your head of what the curtains will look like, it is time to get technical.

What was the style that you gravitated towards? For instance, I knew I wanted either tab top or tie top curtains.

You will also need to know the length and width of what you will need for your window.

Once you have these things narrowed down, it is time to start shopping.

Shopping for Affordable Curtains

Once again, I was nervous about finding a large curtain rod for a decent price. A quick Google shopping search proved me wrong and I was pleasantly surprised with what I found!

Curtain Rod

A simple google search using the size I needed, and these curtain rods were one of the first things that popped up. They are the Umbra Cappa 120 to 180-inch adjustable window curtain rod in “new brass”. I love the sleek design and the brass is more of a gold and not too dark looking which is exactly what I was looking for.

They are listed for $39.99 each, but at the time I bought them there was a sale going on bringing them down to $31.99 each. I was even able to combine that sale with a 20% off one item coupon making my order total around $58 for two curtain rods

Curtains

I wanted some light and feminine curtains.

As I mentioned before, my inspiration research made me realized I liked both tie top and tab top curtains.

I googled both, using price and measurement filters and eventually found these from Amazon.

These fit my needs best because they were cheap and I could buy them by the panel, which was helpful since I needed so many of them. I originally only bought four to see how they looked, and ordered more from there. For reference, I ordered curtains in the color white and size 59″ x 84″

Putting it All Together

Finding affordable curtains can seem like a daunting task, especially if you have a lot of window space to cover.

This step by step process should help the shopping experience be a little more manageable while staying within your budget.
